The last time the Mundial was hosted by the Americas was  in 1994 when the United States hosted it for  the first time in the history of the Mundial, which  was dubbed   *  USA  94*

Since then  a  lot of changes have been made by  the World Football governing body, Fifa,  to accommodate more countries in the World Cup finals which led to the latest development of  48 teams being legible to participate after the long drawn battle between countries during the qualifying campaign, with Africa being adequately represented with 10 countries from their  previous  5 team format

104 matches to be played in this new format of 48 teams, in 16 cities across the  three hosting  Nations , it promises to be a thriller as well as more exciting for football lovers all over the planet earth.

The  opening game is going to be more than a football match ,its a test of identity, pressure as well as ambition, as Mexico will be under intense pressure from their supporters to claim the three points at stake in this opening match.

South Africa , on the other hand will prove to the world they are not under dogs as book makers may believe earlier than now.

The fixture is a remake of the opening game of the 2010 World Cup between both teams which ended in a 1-1 draw in Johannesburg.

Match Preview

Mexico , one of the co- host Nations faces one of Africa ‘s representative, the Bafana , Bafana of South Africa, who qualified ahead of Nigeria ‘s Super  Eagles during the qualifying campaign . It would be recalked that in 2010 Fifa World Cup hosted by South Africa, the opening match was between  South Africa and Mexico, which ended in a stalemate , 1-1  final score

The hosts are playing at the familier and iconic Azteca stadium in Mexico and are the expected to dominate Group A at least on paper , unless there is an upset from the Bafana , Bafana , which cannot be ruled out .

The Mexicans posses superior technical  quality and greater squad depth as well as   an  advantage of a passionate home crowd .

If we may go down memory lane of opening matches  are full tension rather than free flowing tactical football as the host Nation carries the burden of a MUST win .

They beat and held to a draw , several big weights   European in European football , including Serbia they pummeled , 5-1 , as well as  respecrable draws against Portuagl and Belgium together with white washing minnows , Ghana , Serbia and  Australia with heavy defeats .

The Bafana , Bafana  , however also survived the rigours of African qualifications  after points deductions , as well as a 3-0 humbling of Rwanda in thei final qualifying matches plus a gold gift win from Nigeria against  pretenders , Republic of Benin they showed the exit door 4-0 , was a roller coaster for  South African qualifications , while Nigeria lost out at play off against  a tactically well equipped DR Congo team via penalties.

Players to watch out for in El-trin team are mainly star striker , Raul Jimenez , new siguning for Wolves in England as well as ageless goal tender , Guillermo Ochoa is about to make history in football as the only player who has competed in six Fifa World Cup tournaments , but faces a stiff opposition from rival , Raul Rangel in between the sticks

Captain, Edson Alvarez is  set to make his 99th international Cap at center back , along side , Caesar Montes .

A big descion awaits Aguirre as who is to get a starting shirt either 17 year old teenager , Gilberto Mora  in the molid field or opt for veteran , 36 year old  Oberlin Pineda or Chavez .

South Africa parades  relegated Burnley striker as thei hit man in such a high profile encounter against an experienced North American team , in the name of Lyle Foster who scored the late equalizer against Jamaica in their last friendly match , while the trio of  Teboho Mokoena ,Yaya Sithole and  Thalente Mbatha are supose to link up in a three man mid field pack .

Hugo Bross is likely to deploy a 4-3-3 formation to dislodge and keep the Mexicans at bay .

We expect a good and tension soaked football despite its long history of pressure and identity in the past

Prediction

Despite their  clean sheets in their previous  last six matches out of eight , this may not scare a South African team who have scored in nine out of their last 11 matches on the road to qualification including friendlies .

El Trin should keep this in mind and never to be complacent and not withstanding Mexico’s intimidating home advantage cannot prevent a high scoring team like the Bafana , Bafan from  sending goal keeper, 40  year  Guillermo Ochoa  to an early retirement after this Mundial .

Though Mexico  posses a more superior sqaud depth than South Africa , but their sweat Merchant , Brosss knows how to handle very difficult teams than the lesser unfancied teams if he could survive the rigours of African qualifiying series where big weights like Nigeria could not find their bearing during the qualifying campaign s hence leaving them in their wake .

Mexico is at home and  knows how to handle this type of opposition together with their home support which should also not be twken for granted, are likely to kick start their opening game in a positive fashion.
